LIVRO DO GÊNESIS

"Masaccio's Expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden (1425) (figure 3) tells the story of the first shame experienced by a man and woman together, witnessed by an angel, but no human being. The audience for shame shrinks from a group, representing society, to a hidden pair of voyeurs, and finally, to God
(...) Images of the first sinners, Adam and Eve, likewise began to develop during this period, as less violent variations on the hand-to-face gesture appeared. On a portal at the cathedral of Autun, the figure of Eve, lying down after the Fall, holds her hand to her cheek in what can only be interpreted as a gesture of shame. ".
